The video documents a reform pruning intervention carried out in a
super-high-density olive orchard located in the province of Foggia, near
Stornarella, illustrated by agronomist Vito Vitelli.
It explains how incorrect initial orchard management made a radical
reform pruning necessary in 2022 on trees trained in a bush-wall system.
Despite the severity of the intervention, the applied technique led to
significant productive recovery, with abundant fruiting already from the second
year.
The video highlights that super-high-density olive orchards can be
long-lived and re-formable. While acknowledging the recovery potential of the
bush wall, the agronomist expresses a technical preference for the single-axis
system, considered more balanced vegetatively and more sustainable in the
medium to long term.
The importance of carrying out pruning during the spring phase and
preserving Italian olive varietal heritage even in high-density systems is also
emphasized.
