Plants are self-supporting,
managed without wires or metal poles, and are structured in layered levels
through precise training pruning that guides the tree throughout the years. The
process starts in year one with root development, followed by the formation of three
productive layers starting from the second year. Each layer is induced by
summer cuts at 18–22 cm to stimulate flower bud differentiation, and by winter
structural pruning to shape the fruiting wall. In four years, a complete, pedestrian-accessible
tree is achieved, reaching about 1.70–1.80 m in height, allowing easy
pruning and harvesting from the ground.
The goal is clear: 1700
trees per hectare, 100 premium-quality fruits per tree, over 400
quintals per hectare. The system is light, compact, and highly functional,
requiring no support poles. The high planting density promotes vegetative
competition, helping to keep the plants balanced and ready to fruit.
Compared to the
well-known “MATAIX® Classic” system (5 × 2.2 m – around 900 trees/ha),
the columnar mono-axis system stands out for its vertical architecture. After
24 months, yields of 20 fruits per tree (8 kg) have already been recorded —
exceeding 100 quintals/ha. Full production is expected to surpass 450–500
quintals/ha starting from the fourth year, making the system profitable
even in early stages.
